A beautiful Spanish review on The bonsai pruner

‘El podador de bonsáis’ es un cuento sobre el crecimiento. Yoshi crece bajo la supervisión y los cuidados de su madre que atiende sus necesidades básicas y le brinda el cariño que es tan indispensable para ser feliz. El proceso vital de Yoshi se da en paralelo al del pequeño árbol de su vecino, que dedica todos los cuidados necesarios al bonsái que posee: poda, riego… Yoshi se pregunta si también sobre su cabeza empezarán a aparecer flores. Quizá haya llegado el momento de hacer las cosas solo: comer, bañarse… Pero no parece tan sencillo.

Luciano Lozano ilustra esta historia de crecimiento y recrea la vivienda japonesa de Yoshi y su familia con gran riqueza cromática y de detalles. Los bellos kimonos de la madre de Yoshi, el cambio de estación que se aprecia en las plantas y flores del jardín (¡preciosos los cerezos en flor!) y un sinfín de detalles que hacen imprescindible detenerse varias veces en cada una de las ilustraciones, para apreciar y descubrir elementos nuevos cada vez. La ternura y delicadeza que desprenden las expresiones y gestos de los personajes (el rostro de Yoshi merece un análisis aparte), la cuidada ambientación: las geta (sandalias), el shōji (puerta tradicional), el biombo… El resultado es un auténtico festival para la vista donde cada trazo, cada mancha de color, desde el bigote del gato hasta las flores del bonsái dan luz, forma y color al universo familiar de Yoshi.

Luciano Lozano ilustra para editoriales, prensa, revistas… españolas y extranjeras. Ha estudiado Ilustración en Barcelona, donde reside. José Campanari, actor, director teatral, contador de historias y escritor de literatura infantil desde 2006, ha publicado varios álbumes ilustrados y un texto sobre el teatro.

‘El podador de bonsáis‘ es un texto sencillo y magníficamente ilustrado sobre un proceso tan bello como complejo por el que todos pasamos. ¿Quién no ha sufrido una fiebre de varios días en cama y ha crecido algún centímetro? El recuerdo de esos días vuelve al recuerdo con este bello álbum.

El podador de bonsáis, The bonsai pruner, is a book with a beautiful minimalistic text by José Campanari that whispers like a haiku. It talks about roots, backgrounds, traditions, growing up and becoming an adult. Halfway between melancholic and funny, it will be edited in Spain this Autumn by Tres tigres tristes.

I have finished The bonsai pruner after many years, and many versions during this time. It will be published in Spain in October by Tres tigres tristes Ed. Thanks to the editors, and to José Campanari for the beautiful text. It's the third book I've done this summer. I really need a holiday now.

These days I'm working on the last book I'm doing this summer until my well deserved holidays in September. This is for The Bonsai pruner, that will be finally edited in Spain in october by Tres tigres tristes. It seems like I'm traveling to Japan with Yoshi and his family.
